Reflection Post 1

Lecture
Throughout the lecture we were introduced to the diversity of issues that could drive our future scenarios. Money, Food, Threats and Lifestyle are four of the core concerns that have driven and continue to drive out existance. One thing that stands out to me is how our lifestyle drives our demands for food, money and is the driving factor in so many wars and conflicts.

Think About Future Contexts
In the future, from the perspective of the present, I believe that our commercialist wasteful lifestyle will come back and majourly bite us in  the ass. The Finite resources will run out and hard choices will have to be made "for the good of the majority". Goverments will not have the luxury of policies that makes it's voters happy a hard line will have to be drawn and conflict will require a more military mindset.

Imagine Yourself In The Future
In the future I imagine myself as a Architect striving to promote a more sustainable form of living, one less reliant on non-renewable resources an less vunerable to political, social and environmental changes.

Think About Some Future Scenarios

  • Aging Population forces 'inhuman' polices
  • Major Technological Advances, creation of a true virtual world driven by neuroligical uploads
  • Changing Earth, New Ice Age or Age of Fire
  • Urban Shift causes changes in relationships to food production in the city
  • Discoveries in outerspace lead to new colonisations

Project Development Post 1

Architecture is the physical manifestation of needs identified through multiple contexts from a macro to micro scales. The climatic, cultural, ecological, economic, geographical, political, social and technological contexts are just some of the factors influencing the solution and the process of achieving a holistic design.

Needs are not static. Needs are informed by the past, the present and a multiple of future possibilities. Rather than responding to today Architects must envision, enlighten and educate preparing for the long term through both the built environment and new strategies for the future.

This semester my challenge is to envision a future that has a well-considered contextual response, highly imaginative plot and creating a stage for the future surrounding built environment.
