2. Reflection Post 1

Inter-generational Co-learning for Social Poetry

Benefits of Encouraging Interactions between Generations
Youths
·         Years 5 and up
·         Pen pal, development of listening, talking and writing skills
·         Crafts, snacks, signing, arts, shared creation
·         Picnic, reading stories, exercising, watching movies
·         Card and board games, educational games
·         Pro-social behaviours
·         Self-concept and esteem developed
·         Higher achievement in both academic etc.
Elders
·         Connection, self-esteem
·         Reminisce, life experiences, wisdom
·         Greater connection to community
·         Foster learning and development of skills, encourage pride
·         Improvements in health both mental and emotional
·         Decreased  isolation

Rather than setting in stone activities and responsibilities I will aim to create opportunities for co-learning, interactions for all ages and socialisation. From the joint activities a shared understanding of each other is to be fostered to deal with the isolation caused from modern fragmentation of families (Schaulbach & Kierman http://www.kon.org/urc/horgan.html).
